Joe is a coach to senior management teams and individual business leaders and talents, both local and expatriate, in the Asia Region within the telecom, healthcare, fast food and retail sectors. He has held senior HR leadership roles with multinational companies in Asia.

Career History
Apple Retail, HR, 2010-2012As the senior HR partner for the Apple Retail division in China and Hong Kong, Joe provided HR leadership and execution to establish Apple Retail Stores in China and Hong Kong. He partnered with corporate functions on opening new cities/markets; determining the legal and market practice requirements for compensation, benefits and pay structures. Joe worked closely with various business leaders and staffing teams to recruit management talent, market support staff and store staff. He developed and implemented compensation packages to attract and retain management talent and partnered closely with corporate teams to review compensation practices against market realities.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Hong Kong, Director/Head of HR, 2007 - 2009
Joe provided overall HR leadership to the development and implementation of people management strategies, policies and practices within the Club. He was responsible for attracting, developing and retaining the required people resources; enabling the achievement of strategic and operational goals. Joe profiled the Club's overall management capabilities to achieve the long-term goals of the Club, determining areas of improvement and developing the required training programs and staffing plans to close the gap.
Philips Medical Systems Asia Pacific, Hong Kong, Vice President HRM, 1998 - 2007
Joe was a key business partner of senior leadership teams that achieved profitable sales growth in Asia from 100M Euro in 1998 to over 1B Euro in 2007 through organic growth and acquisition growth. Tasked with providing extensive and highly diverse business human resources leadership and support to the Asia Pacific region, Joe provided policies, tools, expertise and advice to senior management team to make sound business and human resources decisions. Joe managed and executed the core Philips HRM programs such as management development, performance appraisals, and compensation and rewards programs including long-term incentives. He drove the development of effective high performing business leadership teams, coaching managers and individual talents to achieve short-term and long-term business and people objectives. Joe was responsible for the development of local talent for future leadership roles.
Tricon Restaurants International (formerly Pepsico Restaurants International), Hong Kong, Regional Director HR Asia Pacific, 1996 - 1998
Joe was the regional prime to deliver on core HR processes: Total Compensation Planning, Employee P&L, Human Resource Plans, Performance Management, 360 Feedback, Organization Effectiveness surveys. He acted as the interim HR Director for Pizza Hut Korea market. Joe provided region support on the HR issues for the restaurant division spin-off from Pepsico, including providing direct support to franchisees on the purchase of company assets in the region.
Nortel China, Beijing, PRC, Senior Human Resources Manager, China Joint Ventures, 1993 - 1996
Joe was responsible for providing comprehensive HR advice, support and leadership to Nortel China's joint venture operations and for the technical transfer of HR management practices and knowledge to the respective joint ventures' HR staff.
Northern Telecom (Asia) Ltd, Beijing, PRC, Manager, Human Resources, 1992 - 1993
Joe provided value-added HR services and leadership, including the development, and implementation of HR policies and procedures for the Nortel China Representative Offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Northern Telecom Canada Ltd, Mississauga, Canada, Manager, Education Relations & University Interaction, 1990 - 1992
Joe developed innovative university research programs in areas of strategic importance to Nortel. He was also the company's liaison to the broad education and business communities with regards to business-education partnerships and promotion of primary and secondary school science and mathematics teaching programs.

Joe supported the management of the R&D allocation process by providing financial analysis of R&D/growth plans for NT's divisions. He provided analysis and support to the product line management and finance functions on R&D resource administration, product line planning, and R&D investment, ensuring a close coupling between the strategic and financial views of the R&D process.

Joe provided financial analysis of product line sales, market share and functional expenses to support the preparation and presentation of the 1988-1990 Operating Plan. He prepared budgets and quarterly forecasts for two separate divisions of Northern Telecom Canada.

Joe investigated the effects of vibration on low back pain; projects included the design and construction of a device to allow in vivo measurements of spinal column vibrations in human subjects and the investigation of low back pain in U.S. Army helicopter pilots. He worked on various research projects funded by U.S. multinational corporations.
